    Poem Commentary

The Frabjous Day - Callou Callay! This is my Muchness.

    The Longest Road

Some of us take a longer road
but get there in the end
back to the place where we went wrong
where the road forks and bends

    and having fought endlessly
    against what we knew not
now realize all we longed for
was to take the path we'd not

    it seems I've journeyed endlessly
to find the power to forgive
and in it find the strength to say
I have a right to live

My heart need not be heavy
    or scarred or so afraid
my thoughts need not to be consumed
by the bitter price I've paid

There is a kind of dignity
I find, here at the end
    I understand, I have a choice
and I choose to begin, again

    the burdens I have carried
will be left at the crossroads
it's a good place to abandon
    this dark and dreary load

I've learned some real harsh lessons
    on this lonely barren trip
still, the only thing I really know?
without love it's all for shit

some people take the longest road
to find right at the end
that indeed they've come full circle back
    to the same crossroads again

so see me, light and merry
with a sweet smile in my eye
I choose to take the other path
but will blow a kiss ~ goodbye ~

This is such an empowering write a reminder that we have choice and that we can change our paths at any time. I've derailed myself a few times along the way yet still I strive to arrive :)

you don't always have to ride a bum steer. if you choose to change directions, life would be an easier journey ,if you choose to bury the hatchet early on. The hills a long climb with a chip on one shoulder and an ax to grind on the other. how can we dodge on coming traffic. duck low hanging limbs and jump over the great divide, when burden with a heavy heart. Dump the load, cross the road, and put on a happy face. You won't have to dodge the oncoming traffic. some on going your way will pick you up. good advice

Very clever and smartly done. There is a lot of wisdom in this poem, I wish I'd taken a different path at times in life and would probably be in better shape if I had. But as you say, we always have a choice, and this makes all the difference.

LIght and merry is good! (but, for one, it's bye). I like the parsing wisdom on the road (sometimes) twice travelled, paired with airy rhyme and lilting meter. Soo worth the read! Applause building!!

Thank you very much - I enjoy your applause :)

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
