The L.S.D. Adventure

Poem Commentary

A true tale of a past acid trip and what I found out there on the lunatic fringe.

The L.S.D. Adventure

One starry night under a willow tree.

I dropped five hits of good L.S.D.

I awaited something to come to me

and of course it did.

Davids mom came out of her house

and wondered at my tears aloud.

Saying David what in hell is wrong with that boy?

I looked at her as tears streamed down my face.

Mrs Ewing, “ I have figured all of life out.”

She glared at me with suspicious eyes.

I guess she was never brave enough to try,

Hallucinogenics.

The colors whirled and noises roared.

I wondered how I got on the floor,

or was it a sidewalk?

Guess it really don't matter.

Well I gazed up into that willow tree and ate the lemon

cookies she brought to me, saying, “son, put something

on your stomach.”
The streetlight poured through those graceful branches

floating in the wind.

I knew every secret God had ever whispered of men.

Or maybe it was the blotter I had consumed.

I am unsure.

But damn! That feeling was worth the pain.

When I awoke the next day feeling drained.

Weak as a kitten.

My sweat smelled just like The poisons

used to make it.

I never will forget that night it was one

psychotic schizo ride and riding home

upside down in the car made it even wilder.

The streetlights flashed by as lasers in the night.

My buddy kept yelling at me to sit up.

That's about the time I threw up.

Upside down going seventy in his Mitsubishi.

I don't know who washed me up or gave me

that wonderful seven up to drink.

But I damn sure drank it.

I loved the feeling of getting high.

But had to quit.

As I am too old now to do it.

It's just unseemly.

I am now a grown man but won't forget.

All the fucked up friends that I met.

Some of them alas, didn't make it.

The L.S.D. Adventure now is Over.

I enjoyed the ride.

Hope you laughed at my tale.

Funniest thing about it is it's true.

Glad I survived to tell my wild tale to you.
