Poem Commentary

This piece was written by inspiration of the Book of Hosea in the Bible.  There are many things that drive people to do what they do. Gomer is no exception and neither am I.  I cannot fathom the mercies of God, nor am I deservant of them.  Thank God I serve a God who will put the Name of Ishi on my tongue.  Ish' -i:  interpreted literally as "My Husband..."

The Name of Ishi

Yes, yes, I am Gomer,
having come from the caves of my aloneness
in the years of my drought from physical affections, to follow after a love that doesn't die.  Forbidden love that - even in it's self righteousness - calls out to me in echo of my own desire until his inner struggle calls me Gomer.

Within that ache I am adulterous.  I have lain with that love on pulsating seas within the horizons of my mind many times without ever having felt the heat of his breath upon my neck...the heart is a treacherous entity.  He is blind to his power and deaf to the thunder of his struggle as it resonates within me; for I am bound by unfailing connection to the throes of the storm within him.

Yes, yes, I am Gomer whom God will allure
unto the wilderness and speak comforts to there.  In that day, He will put the Name of Ishi into my mouth, into my heart and in bethrothment I will understand the love of God.

And what of Isreal?
Will the love of God heal a prideful nature?
Is not the love of God
both humble and consuming?
Are you Isreal?

Confessional- you say, "inspriational." Ultimately confrontational, you smiling seductress, you. I'm sure I'm now thinking the very thoughts you wanted me to, from the start. 10.

This is a great poem! It is very hard to fatham unconditional love, and how any being is capable of it for all mankind. Beautiful poem!

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
