The Odds
Overcoming
The odds
They said I wouldn’t
I was just a fraud
They looked at me
And saw a loser
Destined to be
Just another boozer
They almost
Made me a believer
Had my doubts
I could ever deliver
I certainly had my
Back against the wall
People just waiting
To see me fall
Out of nowhere it hit me
I knew then what I had to do
Deep from with in arose
Something brand new
Determination started
It’s path inside me
I knew of my life
I couldn’t let it be
I certainly made
My share of mistakes
I was not at all
Anything great
I just blatantly
Refused to quit
I gathered my thoughts
I knew this was it
I started a journey
Of almost forty years
But truthfully there
Was a lot of tears
I refused to stop
I certainly wanted to
It would have been easy
To say that’s it I’m through
Jesus and I had
Become longtime friends
The first thing He said was
“Get rid of all those sins”
As I grew closer
I listened to him
He kept saying “stick with me
Together we will always win”
Now my world is
A much better place
Because of Jesus
And his saving grace
