The Path

The Path

Walking down a long, long path,
Unbalanced and unsteady.
Wearing experience as my weight,
A battle for the ready.

The path is always long and narrow,
Difficult to navigate.
Rocks and hills are common place,
Decisions to contemplate.

Halfway down this lonely course,
I stumble to my knees.
The weight of life is crushing me,
I find it hard to breath.

And as I'm lying there on the ground,
Covered all in dirt.
I look upon the skies above,
A tear flows to my shirt.

Just as I think I've lost it all,
And hope seems to elude me.
The answer swells to engulf my soul,
Feeling it so clearly.

I've had it wrong all along,
It's not the path at all.
It's how I choose to walk the path,
that makes me stand or fall.

My outlook taken from my past,
Has shaped my future so.
My vision has blinded the course ahead,
Based on what I know.

But if I choose to walk the course,
With uninhibited sight.
New paths may spring, my future changed,
New courses to delight.

The path I've walked was a must,
To get to where I stand.
But knowledge now has changed my sight,
And lent a helping hand.

Beautiful. I love this, love how you brought out the importance of perspective. Gosh, we write about a lot of the same things, I also write a lot about perspectives and nature, so its nice to read these things from someone else. You have a lot of talent, keep writing!

Very nice work-insightful and active read--Very good.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
