    Poem Commentary

I actually loved London! this poem is mostly humor.

    The People Of London

I wonder how the people of London live all pressed together like this.

    The streets are packed.

    There are no trashcans.

I’ve been holding this ice cream wrapper for hours.

I wonder how people of London aren’t all obese.

The fish and chips are delicious.

    I can’t stop eating cake.

Good thing we are walking everywhere.

I wonder how the people of London don’t all have lung cancer.

    Everyone is smoking.

    The sky is gray.

I don’t have a choice but to breathe this air.

I wonder how the people of London aren’t all deaf.

    Children are screaming.

    Horns are blaring.

My thoughts are running away from me.

I wonder how the people of London are interested America.

    We don’t have accents

    We don’t have big ben

Yet they all ask about Dawson’s Creek

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
