The Plight Of The Purple Dragon

The purple dragon sits upside down on the table,
Glassy blue eyes staring at an upside down world.
His tether hangs across his upside down face,
Not connected to anything.
He could fly if he wanted,
But the Dali world has him confused.
The sky is down and the ground is up,
How did this happen?
When did things get topsy turvy?
Did he drink too much dragonfruit juice last night?
Or did he chase another dragon?
One that bested him and left him in this precarious position.
Slowly the glassy blue eyes scan the upside down world.
Looking for a way to right it.
He must fly or death will claim him.
A stranger comes along and sees the befuddled creature,
He feels sorry for it somehow.
A dragon should not be upside down,
Never upside down.
The stranger reaches gently for the frightened dragon,
The glassy blue eyes fix him with an uneasy stare,
A giant has come and death cannot be far behind.
Fingers close carefully upon the dragon's body,
The glassy blue eyes close in anticipation of pain.
A sudden movement, the hands withdraw,
Te glassy blue eyes open slowly.
The world is right again!
The dragon takes wing!

Such a perfectly stated metephore! You brought a unique creation to the table, and drew your reader in with a visually intense storyline! To trust again, when we are sure we will be hurt, only to find true happiness and wrong made right. Wonderful write!

The first time I read this I giggled, but the second time..... I giggled again lol. On the third however, I saw something here. This story can be compared to the way so many people live their lives fully aware of the damage they are doing to themselves, yet never taking the time to right themselves. Unfortunately for humans, most of the time, it isn't so simple to save someone. Bravo BB - 10 from me

I could see every beautifully crafted word of this poem. Without the stranger, the dragon is helpless and destined to die. May the world stay right, for the dragon to simply be able to fly. nice poem, TS

And, this piece is on page "what" of your latest children's book of poems and tall tales..??? lol... There is some symbolism in this, but the story is purely mystical... I like it... Who says it has to make sense to tease the mind with curious laughter...??? lol... Great write....

It was meant as pure symbolism...expecting pain and receiving kindness and freedom instead. It made perfect sense to me at the time. But thanks for liking it.
