Poem Commentary

Every woman is a potential queen....and its the men that can make us become one.

THE QUEEN

I’m the tall and shapely figurine that stands regal on the game board of chess,

But I can be brutal; don’t let my elegance fool you, with me you don’t mess.

My knowledge on the art of war makes me the deadliest weapon on a battlefield,

Though surrounded by men, am the most dangerous of all, I hardly need any shield.

My dynamics are magnificent; I’m as swift as the wind and fluid like the waters,

Whoever crosses my path or is in my line of sight doesn’t live to tell of my great powers.

Like in the insect colonies, I reign, having soldiers and workers at my beck and call,

My men worship the ground I walk upon, am admired and revered by them all.

They will march to the ends of the earth because of the loyalty they have for me,

Many unforgettable wars have been fought for love of me; I am the extraordinary ‘She’.

I have divided kingdoms; they have fallen and risen by the power of my influence,

These aftermaths are from decisions I made either by my lack of wisdom or its affluence.

I’m Greatness and Beauty personified in the forms of Cleopatra, Nefertiti and Sheba,

My movements are graceful, even on a dance floor as it’s rightly said in the song of Abba.

I’ve tasted sweet victories with my war strategies in countries like England and Nigeria,

History has records of my triumphs under the names of Elizabeth I and Amina of Zaria.

A king’s genuine love for me helped to save an entire race from death and disaster,

A beauty with brains; Read about me in the Bible, I’m known as Hadassah or Esther.

I’m full of substance and my achievements prove me as the very essence of a paragon,

I am perfectly portrayed and showcased in the person of Isabel I of Castile and Aragon.

A higher mortal, I am and should be the epitome of supreme femininity and gentility,

And like Diana, I'll always rule the hearts of many by my humanity and humility.

There is a secret that has gone undiscovered but I can reveal it to you now as I confess,

Any woman can be me, for within her lies my attributes that she’s unaware she possess.

She can also be, through a man by birth and especially through his love by marriage,

But truth is, every man can make his woman become me and that’s my simple message.

For I’m in every woman, whether fat or slim, black or white or everything in-between,

So when you see her, irrespective of who she is, look at her with love, she’s the Queen.

Kings usually got the publicity, but the Queens called the shots. Every once in a while you'll get one like Catherine the Great, who has no patience for nonsense and just takes over the whole country, outright. Ha ha Well done, Jo : )

Thanks Chaos.......i really appreciate your comment.....how are you doing?

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
