The Resolution

Poem Commentary

September 1 is my bff's birthday...unfortunately, she passed away last April (a day after my birthday ironically) after years of fighting gloriously against cancer...it is so hard for me to get through each day without being able to talk to her...she was my family....

The Resolution

There are so many things running through my mind,
and every thought are filled with visions of you,
i just can't seem to leave these feelings behind,
i'm not strong enough to do this without you.

Tell me what to do, tell me where i can go,
i'm getting tired running around in circles,
it's just too hard to chase after a shadow,
it's difficult to believe in miracles.

It is killing me that you have gone away,
each day...a piece of me keeps dying with you,
i can't forgive you for turning me this way,
you should have stayed till the end to see this through.

Instead you caved, so all gun shots had to cease,
why did you not fight back like you always did,
you could have easily brought death down to it's knees,
but you surrendered...and i had to watch you bleed.

I cannot condone your final selfless act,
did you think it would be simple to forget,
was it that easy for you to dismiss our pact,
you didn't even live long enough to regret.

I cannot live like this after all these time,
i won't permit my mind to be ruled by my heart,
while i breath i swear, you are no friend of mine,
i have to survive or i will be torn apart.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
