The Silence of The Nap

The Silence of The Nap

The fridge is humming
The heater takes a drink
Little man is sleeping
Not a dish in the sink
nothing to do
so I think about you
Passing the time
making these rhymes
little guy wakes up
just to ask for his cup
then goes back to sleep
with not even a peep
A little while later
the silence grows greater
So I wake my little guy up
just to play with his truck
we sit in the floor
to play a bit more
When bath time gets near
We Know your soon to be here

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
