The Strength of A Thousand Men

Here she sits,
A prisoner in her own mind.
Despite the clock ticking away
In this place there is no time.
One by one the
thoughts are racing
The floorboards worn away
From all her pacing.
Back and forth
Across the transparent chasms of doom
her mind racing in its castle of gloom
And soon
She peers through the keyhole
Witnessing demons at her door
Fire coming for the windows
Insects coming up from the floor.
One by one these devise a plan
To release the fears;
Not to consume her flesh
But drink her tears.
And when they've drunk enough
And she is all cried out of tears
The ravage and plunder
Her cavern of hope
Whispering in her ears
"Here in this place,
Your spirit's erased.
Pain remains where sorrow stains"
And so she trembles
Wincing in agony and despair
Searching for the strength
Of a thousand men
Which isn't there.
Slowly they drag her deeper
Into this cavern without light
She's forgotten her faith again
And lost the will to fight
And finally she sees the last flicker
Of a flame fading to black
And knows the cavern is her home
There is no turning back.

"Pain remains where sorrow stains" - Perfect line. Loved it. Easy 10.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
