The Visit

Poem Commentary

We are never adequate to walk into His presence...but we try! we dress the part, reherse the lines, look in the mirror put on the coat, hat and act. Its funny how we think we rate - until we know he sees! the Vist is how grace bridges the Gap that we can not cross...

The Visit

I dressed in Rags to visit You,
 was all I knew to do.
I needed, so desperately to see your face...
                                   Too hear that you approve!

I knocked that You would answer;
my desire - you would open the door
with warm embrace invite me in, sit with me and hear
the more!

I looked as i dressed...so carefully
your presence so calls for perfection.
Heart stop!
I saw with trembling eyes,
                             my feet went another direction.

In terror, i stopped to grab hold of myself
I dropped and simply prayed;
 i asked Your strength to knock the door.
You wiped my brow,
                    You Stayed!

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
