The Wait

The Wait

You just left without reason or a single word...
You'd be back, that's what she really thought,
Time went by while in her heart she hoped
that her love would turn around for good.

Each day she spent her time reminiscing
the lively happy days you were with her...
Asking herself why all this sudden change,
 In her mind she couldn't find the right answers.

Can love be so cruel and stab her to the core?
And yet her love for you remained forevermore.
She prayed and hoped that you would send a word
that you'd come back for her and leave no more.

But years gone by she never stops waiting...
Never gave in to the looks of other men,
In her heart she had the same prayer
may her love at least remember her.

She believed whatever's in her mind,
Dedication filled her pained and ailing heart;
Got so sick and almost couldn't stand
but by the door she fixed her eyes outside.

Then one day heaven answered her prayer,
Finally you decided you'd go back to her;
It was dusk you found her door open,
Lying cold inside, she's no longer waiting.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
