    Poem Commentary

I wrote this a long time ago for two friends I briefly met in one of the original java based chat rooms... The lady lived here in the midwest and her male friend lived in Great Britain... They liked each other quite a bit but, were very shy... They both privately came to me for help, because I was the room monitor that day and I did what I could to help them get to know each other better... Long story short, I wrote this poem for them that night and sent it to each in a private message, then  "hung up" my end of the conversation... They were on their own from there... Five years later, the lady emailed me saying they had gotten together a few weeks after that, and been a couple ever since, though never marrying... I lost touch with them when I changed my ISP and lost my address book, but last I heard was, they were doing fine... I'm not taking credit for their success, but I'd like to think maybe I helped a little bit at the beginning with this piece...

    The Web Dream

    Written for two friends

Is it so much a wonder
    two friends can really be,
from lands unknown so far apart,
though never the other to see…???

That they met by chance against the odds
is not what's important to them,
it's just they did, and now have a chance
to explore a new found friend…

    Could this be the one
    they've dreamed of so long,
    or another dead end
    and someone all wrong…???

Well, faith must live inside them both
and hope must rule their hearts,
for they now begin to bare their souls
and the story of each life starts…

With them now that was not then
    many anxious moments consume them,
awaiting what they might find inside
the next note from their new friend…

Some words they'd put in the cyber abyss
that read like a welcome mat,
    "Hello I'm here… if you'd like to talk…"
just to see where the other was at…

From those few words of intro
    they form a little bond,
and who's to say that it won't last
    or last for very long…???

They know it's sometimes not what's said
    that keeps the interest there,
but, a curious mind and a hopeful heart
    that someone out there cares…

So, back and forth they send out pieces
of their passions, desires, and opinions,
every thing from family to food
and even their more sensitive minions…

But, they're never quite sure they're connecting
in the way they intend to come through,
so, for now they stay easy-does-it
being more gracious than they ever knew…

But, can anything be taken a wrong way
that would cost a potential best friend,
for as time goes by and the new wears off
isn't a real friend still there in the end…???

So, off come the shackles and binders
that hold down what lives deep within,
caution aside, they start to tell all
    "Whatever I am, I just am"…

    Swapping secrets with fervor now
they try their best to unload,
every flaw they've found or see in themselves
they're trying to widen this road…

E-notes trade faster than stocks on the floor
of wall street, who'd surely be envious,
and each can't help but, wonder a little
if this one's the last as they send it…

But, it's not and the notes keep flowing
what feathers that ruff are few,
all those feelings of worse fears don't come
and it's then they finally knew…

On the other end they’d found a someone
more interested in what they would be,
than all that they were, or from where they had come
It's the future that counts, not history…

From parts far apart, they each give smile
and think they've been granted a dream,
and it only came true because they were just them
not actors in a fairy tale scene…

It's our own expectations that give us our pains
when placed so hard and set,
exalted so high above our real needs
that they could never be met…

It's easier to hear a hundred truths
    than bear one simple lie,
so, make your peace with honest words
that others will never ask why…

And, if you want this dream to happen
for it's chance to be in the end,
and become the thing you hoped for
your soul to find a real friend...???

    Uncover your heart and listen
    hear another heart speaking too,
the dream can be but, only come true
if you both - just simply be you…

"Matchmaker, matchmaker find me a match". You always have a story behind the story. Love this and an beginning to sound redundant with all you poetry, but mean it from this poet's heart. Sally

Thank you Aixa... This is just a flowing narrative about the importance of being yourself; and, all good things come from that...

It's our own expectations that give us our pains when placed so hard and set, exalted so high above our real needs that they could never be me. LOVED this stanza. Love your style. A good friendship takes a while. Write on...

Yes, thank you OP... This was written for two friends from different countries...

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
