Poem Commentary

More comic relief.

The Winning Poet is....

Fear not humble poets your poems they’re not dead

They’ve just been put on file and are waiting to be read

A fine website this is and we’re all glad it’s come to fruition

But the rules of the game require much more than just normal intuition

Enter the weekly poetry contest you say?

Not a problem, it’s very easy… almost mere child’s play

But winning?  Not so easy … several factors must prevail

First people must read the poem… not a minor little detail

Second comes comments and ratings by other interested poets

They read and reread and finally leave their individual epithets

Then the web owners take over and apply some simple math

The Standard Gross Count Mean Number system is defined as the path

Since no one really knows what that means… not even a remote clue

We congratulate the winner and move on without further ado

How does one make a name for themselves and gain wider recognition?

Well they must follow the golden rule … a simple proposition

The golden rule states unequivocally that good Friends are the secret key

So make many and nurture them carefully and a winning poet you may be.

You have written a humorous but very truthful poem about the weekly poetry contest. It seems like the poets that write beautiful, inspiring poems with a good message don't win any contests on this website. The poems that win seem to be abstract poems with little or no real message and muddled viewpoints.

The more time I get to spend and read this website the more I love it...........It brings up a lot of different emotions! I love reading the different points and enjoy the irony. This is a two-sided coin for me-------If I could, I would want to pick heads and tails!!!!!! Well Written

You have made me reexamine my use and abuse of this site. I have tried to be true to my friends that have responded to me on this site. But it is more blessed to give than to receive. To have friends you must be a friend. Thanks for the funny lesson on keeping friends. I would like to learn that skill. Wow, you seem to be making some interesting friends with this one!

Thanks for reading and commenting, I appreciate it.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
