They March On

They March On

Countless blessings become clearer today
As many gather to honor their young;
Their future is bright, they are on their way
To continue what high school has only begun.

The air is filled with joy and laughter,
A hint of sadness in some, with a tear;
Still, they march on and may reflect later
Upon a memory made in a younger year.

Each has skills to succeed where the heart leads,
Picking up pieces when scattered apart;
They’ll march through the years doing life’s little deeds
With high hopes of finishing all things they start.

Let them celebrate and enjoy this wondrous time,
To reflect, to remember, while marching ahead;
This feeling can be with them throughout their prime
Just as long as they can recall what others have said.

Thanks to all teachers for instilling knowledge within
And for friendships that prove faithful and true;
Priceless are families for sacrifices given
As we watch, they march on and yell “GRADUATES RULE!”

Who is wise and understanding among you?
Let him show it by his good life,
by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
James 3:13

I found this a touching affirmation of good scholarship and to excellence in teaching. Graduation is a fulcrum moment, and I'm guessing someone close to you was making this journey to inspire these words.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
