Poem Commentary

A rhyme of sorts about who we pretend to be versus who we really are

This Web We Weave

This web we weave

but to deceive

so others may not see us

may provide a veil

that serves us well

but it will eventually regress.

Once the truth be known

and the true face is shown

the scars will be apparent

And no feint of hand

will be at your command

to protect against the evil assailant.

    The answers lie within

far below ones painted skin

at the core of one’s inner being

Only you can choose

to win or loose

and experience the act of freeing.

So stand before your mirror

so you can see all clearer

and tell yourself who you see

Is it the character you’ve created?

The stranger with whom you mated

Or is the real you staring back at thee.

I guess we all, at sometime in our lives, pretend to be something we are not.......just to be greater than what we are....but in the end, we have to look ourselves straight in the eye. This is a really special kind of poem by you, Hamp......

Thank you for reading and commenting.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
