    Poem Commentary

this poem came out of two very traumatic events. when i was 10 years old, i watched my home burn down. this was the greatest pain i knew, up to that point. much later in life, my girlfriend, of 2 years left the relationship without much of an explanation. the break up was devastating. "throe", is a combination of a house on fire and a broken heart. it's a literal poem...not too deep, just dark and painful.

    this burned out house
    burned to the ground
    scarred, charred and fallen down
    floors stained by acid tears
one day became two bad years
this house was grand but broke like glass
we cut our hearts and bled in the grass
like bittersweet we choked the garden
the soil grew cruel and began to harden
    you were the fire
    but i am in flames
this burned out home it has my name
i used a house as my motif
    and touched upon disturbing grief

The ravaging emotions here are chilling. Not in a cold empty kind of way, but that warm tingly chill that clings to the inside of your bones and gives you goosbumps. The introduction is vital to this piece, for it brought everything together in a cacophony of destruction. Very well written. On a personal level, I'm sorry you had to experience the losses that inspired this piece.

at times our lives burn up in smoke and crumble to the ground and it is only with the greatest of character and inner strength that we rise from the ashes. that we pull our lives back together, and some, our will to survive enables us to go on.

so very true ! thanks for your time !
