through the pale

through the pale

Let this wretched pen weep
all the tears these eyes won't shed
keep guard around this broken heart
while salty ink pool spreads

as tragic days find their pace
and set their bitter course
keep guard around this shattered heart
while pen screams for remorse

white pages once so innocent
lose their youth to crimson surge
keep guard around this angry heart
while wicked pen does purge

let solitude wrap the world
in smothering gray veils
keep guard around this lonely heart
let brave pen slash through the pale

look down upon this page of pain
and try to understand
guards fell around this blackened heart
which then put pen in hand

no matter that the tears won't fall
from lying, laughing eyes
the heart holds the hand that holds the pen
and the pen does not tell lies

A protective fence is intended to guard against intrusion. Cleverly conceived and presented.

A clever way to use the pen as an emotional tool. I love how you stayed true to the instrument of pen and paper. Ginga

Ah I see. I like the way you structured this. The way you repeated "Keep guard" made it feel like a war chant, or prayer before battle. Beautiful. Your skill shows that your eyes search thourghly through whatever it gazes upon. And your poetry reflects this. Well done.

This is an incouraging peice, to safeguard one's heart is a very hard task, no one is safe from harm of the heart. You can either step back or go forward. But your statement is very well undertood. Good wording in this writing.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
