    Poem Commentary

this is written for that young man of yore who had to leave home to work overseas, not knowing what to expect./ it was going to be a brave new world, and yet there were things he did not want to just leave behind, but did not have the luxury of a choice to stay. Dedicated to all the brave young men in the world who have to leave home and the things they cherish in order for them to gamble for a better future, not only for themselves, but also for their loved ones. .

to a young man, about to embark on a new life

    tentatively, you have said goodbye,
hoping she knew you that was a lie.

stealthily, you hoped for one last glance
of one thing to miss, a beautiful countenance
she with the delicate face, fragile porcelain
silky to the touch, welcome it like rain
that falls after a long dry spell -
you'd want to remember her so well
and yet as yet you are unsure,
God, there is so much to endure!

tomorrow, tomorrow, you will be gone
what lies ahead, to someone woebegone
    this restless soul, feels, reels
in the power beneath her tiny heels -
she is like the goddess on the pedestal
while you, young man, are but a neanderthal
less of a mortal, no beast nor god
and yet, must you to survive plod.

    tentatively, you turned your back
hoping she knew you are about to pack.

yes, it does evoke sadness to someone about to embark into the unknown at the same time longing to have the blessing of a love one

indeed, Hampton, agreed ... how different our worlds look the evening before a big life change ... nice capture of an iconic, universal experience, Ramelle! -dh

This write has a lyrical tone and saddness built into it that appeals to all that feel deeply for others. Good job.
