To Go On

To Go On

so tired, so weak
i trudge on
lost in a desert
so far, so wide
with no end
with no hope.

the things i accomplish
the steps i take
so miniscule
compared to the vastness
nothing i do
can put even a dent
in the armor of the enemy.

one victory, one win
one reason to celebrate
shadowed by the undefeated
the looming shape
of more misery

each step forward
one leap backwards

despair

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
