Today I Saw The First Leaf Fall

Today I Saw The First Leaf Fall

Today I saw the first leaf fall
It landed by my side
Almost carelessly it fell
Yet I know inside it cried

Leaves that once were shiny new
Now are changed with age
And if they feel as I do now
I'm sure they're red with rage

Too soon - too soon the seasons change
There is more for me to do
The words came from deep within
Words so late - but true

I must hurry back to my little home
Shoulders back - head held tall
There is work to complete and some to begin
Today I saw the first leaf fall

Ah yes, the harbinger of winter. A sadness flutters from the tree and makes more work for you and me. Good poem, TS

This is perfect! the rhyme and the content are perfectly blended,,,The rhyme and the whole form did not stiffened the poem but give it beauty and the content is piercing to the soul...Oh how I love this one

Well, dear....you have some time left...and if you consider rhyme your specialty, I can see why....even though the meter changes from stanza to stanza (which is not bad, as long as it doesn't do it from line to line) you keep it always wonderfully iambic, which is a gift. And the metaphor...endearing, to say the least. Well done once again Mr Stryx....you have officially impressed me.

That pleases me, thank you.

Poetry is what is lost in translation.
