Tribute to Charlie, Braden and Susan Powell

Poem Commentary

Sunday Febuary 5, 2012 Josh Powell commited a double murder, suicide after being denied custody of his two sons due to being a person of intrest in their mother's disappearance. A Washington State social worker took them for their schedualed supervised visit and then. . .

Tribute to Charlie, Braden and Susan Powell

Sitting with my brother
In the backseat of the social lady's suv.
We went camping in the trunk's my mother
Now daddy's accused of murder in the first degree.

Mommy was breathing when we left the house
Mom was alive when we got there,
In the woods I found a bloody blouse
And a house without mommy is bare

Grandpa touches Braden wrong
His son's just as mean
He hits us he's all strong
I don't wanna go to daddy's it's unclean

We park outside in the drive way
Daddy rushes us in.
I don't wanna go I never get a say
He locks Miss Hall is out and then. . .

Daddy puts a hand on my neck,
He beats Brady black and blue,
Today he is all a wreck
He spills smelly water on me and Brady too

He says "I'm sorry" in an email
Then he lights a match.
As fire files up a trail
I begin to cry; my voice does catch

I’m in so much pain
Brady must be too
Daddy’s not sane
Then a big kablueww!

Next thing I know,
I meet a man in white
I’m really sad to go
But this place is full of happy light

He talks to his son
The boy said, “Too young, mind's not a fair state”
Braden and I run run run
We sprint inside the pearly gate

We find mommy waiting by the door
I ask her why she cries
She said, “You won’t see daddy anymore”
I say "yay no more lies."

Mommy’s not covered in red,
Brady's not black and blue,
My legs aren’t all crusty,
We are good as new!

Dad’s rotting for eternity in hell
The jury thought he was guilty
Daddy done it; though he'd never tell
The systems flawed, unjust, and filthy

This was a heart wrenching story, and it's kind of tricky to really tell a story through poetry without becoming monotone or too rhythmic. Props on a story well told! However, there was no punctuation at the end of any of the lines which is a good thing in moderation, but just a semicolon here and maybe a comma there can really keep the story rolling.

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.

Plato (BC 427-BC 347) Greek philosopher.
