    Troller's GIll

There is a place in Troller's Gill
A limestone gorge in rocky hill
A place no human longs to pass
For what lays there is dead man's grass

    Beyond all sunshine never known
The gill remains a sacred home
For creatures starving in the dark
The devil there they often hark

    Jesters of old Satan's court
    Trickster's games of evil's sport
Trolls of folly dance all night
Stomping souls of true man's light

And as the captured souls do fade
The trolls inflict some magic shade
    Creating one of darkened woe
the Devil's dog without a soul

Up it rises the Barghest beast
With slashing claws and sharpened teeth
Sent forth by trolls to seek the prey
    Maidens caught out after day

The course is plotted by this hound
To destroy beauty where it's found
    Over Europe to the sea
Where shipward passage sets it free

The blackened dog from land to land
With passage safe on ships so grand
Upon the vessel meets his role
If he finds a spirit whole

He drinks the blood and tears the flesh
Then through his teeth used like a mesh
He traps the souls beyond cheek wet
And keeps them there inside his net

Carries them back to Troller's Gill
Once his demon has had its fill
And spits his finds out to the troll
Who has its way with each man's soul

So when at night you get a quiver
And your heart it feels a shiver
Pray that you are not in store
For what may lay outside your door

When you trek the mountains wide
Of Yorkshire Dales through country side
If you see the dead man's grass
In Troller's Gill your life will pass

felt I was back in time yet to heed the warnings...very well written with the use of historic verbage as well...

You need all of these to be published. I love how in your mind there is this whole other brilliant world that you paint so beautifully with pen. Can't wait to read more!

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
