Truth

Truth

You nag at people and their

Beliefs

You don’t let go

Making your presence known

Your grip holds tight

Until you are brought into the light

You are often left in the past

Everyone’s forgotten you

But you have a

Tendency to come up out of the

Blue

Your nature ensures good character

And integrity but

You, yourself, can be sly

And at times cruel

Mischievous if you will

Often times it’s when we stop pleading

For you to show your face

When you are finally revealed

Your ability is almost endless

You set people free

And you can keep them captive

You ignite emotions

The feeling of relief, confusion

Pain and love

Anger, justice, shame

And trust

We learn to cherish you

From the time we are young

You come out eventually

In the end when all is

Said and done

So what are you?

You, my friend, are truth

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
