    Twain With A Suitcase

The rain started falling at a quarter past ten
I put up my notebook and laid down my pen
I turned out the light as the rain hit the glass
Thinking how has a life time traveled so fast
My front door was open so I moved on out side
Found a seat on the porch where the rain cleared my mind
A cool summer evening in no way out of place
Turned my attention to the beauty of grace
I watched the rain falling as I thought for a while
I may not be handsome but at least I have style
It's ironic that then I slipped on the steps
Right into the rain to the ground soaking wet
I jumped right on up and I hurried inside
Put on new clothes that I knew would stay dry
When I got back down stairs a phone call it came
They said I would win if I knew the right name
Who braved the falls in a make shift canoe
Did they sink to the bottom or some how make it through
Well I hung up the phone and went into the den
Not even concerned that I never could win
I straightened the blinds and picked up the cat
Then laid on the couch for a nice summer nap
It was then that it happened a vision I had
    Mark Twain with a suitcase
    That was golden leaf clad
He leaned over and whispered and he said something new
The advice that he gave me I now give to you
Keep your clothes dry and watch out what you do
If you boat on the falls don't use a canoe
Then he picked up his suitcase and out the window he went
As dry as a sandstorm and I knew what he meant
He delivered a message and it's one to live by
He was haggard and old but man he was wise

Definitely a poem with something to say. It has a great message. Also, you keep the readers interest well, even when the speaker's not doing anything particularly interesting in itself. And of course the humor is nice ^_^
