Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem when my kids were small. I homeschooled them both for four years. During that time we did a lot of hands-on learning. This poem is about the handmade kites we built together and how nature "flies things better." most of my poems from this time period are rather short, due to lack of time, but also, when writing for children, shorter poems capture their attention more easily.

Two Hawks

It was a mid-March two-hawk day

A gale-force wind with backdrop gray

The two-stick kite

was jerked and tossed

The red-tail hawks both

stayed aloft

Through countless trials

with frozen hands

We launched our kite

It crashed again

Perhaps we'll learn

to fly kites high

by watching hawks

Glide in the sky

Filled with all of the very best elements of kite flying, this work contains more punch for it's brevity! Afternoons spent kite flying with my daughter, were always a special treat, and so is your poem! Good work!

Awesome!! To be able to soar with the hawks, what a thought!! Thanks for taking me on the journey.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
