Under the Texas Moon

  • Lost Love

    Under the Texas Moon

He sat alone in the night

On the banks of a river

Deep in the Heart of Texas

    Staring up into the sky

    Reaching out to the air

As if trying to reach her

Through the miles that kept them apart

    Heart Broken

    Where does he go

As he sits alone in the quiet

Is he seeing her face in the stars

    Re-living a memory

    He misses of her

Does he try to win her back

    In this place he goes

Do they live happily ever after

In this quiet view he stares

    Where is it he goes

As he stares upon the moon

The moon is out full tonight

    His Heart is in pieces

He is not out for the world to see

    Chasing a memory

    Drowning in sorrow

    A knot reaches his throat

The river flows below his feet

    Alone and cold

    He snaps out of it

He is back in the present

    She is not there

    And it is time

    To let the sun rise

    The moon is gone

As surly as she is gone

    He misses her

    But won’t show it

    Say it out loud

    He simply sits

    Alone in the night

On the banks of a river

Deep in the Heart of Texas

Where he goes to a quiet place

    On the inside

    Staring into space

    Where does he go

    On the inside

    To miss her this much

What does he see in her

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
