Wait! Spring

Wait! Spring

Spring

Wait!

Buds! Seal up!

Do not release your glory.

Colors, like Easter egg hues

I am not ready.

Hold! Spring

Until my Heart

Returns to itself,

to Hope

So I can feel it is still

Christmas.

So I can only see your dark branches

Thick to thin as they lengthen

Black in the night

An occasional crow

Resting,

Signaling a death,

Hopefully of death,

Not of another loved one.

Black like the death of my Love,

Before it started.

This year, I expect no

Resurrection.

Spring, Wait.

Buds remain closed.

So I can live with the unknown,

Christmas,

Before there was Death,

with some Hope.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
