Waiting at the Door

Waiting at the Door

For everyone wants what they can't have
That's why I want you.
I go through everyday,
As is habit,
I wait at the entrance of the door to life,
But I can't go in
For there is pain within.
I want to wake up,
But reality is filled with memories.
My heart's been hurt enough,
It can't handle anymore.
I have to move on,
But something holds me back.
I’m pushing against a wall,
But it’s inky black.
I've fallen on my knees,
Looking up with my eyes,
My arms weighed down with despair,
I can't reach up for the help I need.
Tears fall down my face,
I know I have failed.
I shake and I tremble,
But still I cannot move.
I'm stuck here in front of the door,
The door I know will open my eyes,
Open my heart,
Open my mind,
It will let me feel.
And yet I'm stuck here waiting,
Waiting for the one that I love to walk by,
For someone to wake me up,
For someone to save me from myself.
To lift me from my darkest corner
And carry me through the doors
To light,
To hope,
To everything I need to bring me to life!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
