Wake Me

Wake Me

Slap me,
I think I'm dreaming.
Wake me from
This world of unnecessary feeling.
I can't wake up.
The feelings surround me.
I can hardly breathe
I can hardly see.
Why can't I awaken?
Its overwhelming,
And shaken
Explains every
Bone in my body.
I can't calm down,
And I'm pretty sure
I'm shaking on the ground.
Why can't anyone
Wake me from these dreams?
Everything is too vivid.
And it always seems
As though its all real.
No matter how hard
You slap me.
I don't think
Anything will be able
To wake me from these dreams
That once I'm gone,
I won't be able to wake
Even from the breaking of the dawn.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
