Walking Past the Dancers

    Walking Past the Dancers

I am walking past the dancers

Who are driven by the beat

    To such desperate decisions

Through the moving of their feet.

While I hear the blast of rhythm

As it hammers on my drums

I am deaf to its seduction

And to what its voice becomes

For I’m walking off this planet

    And I’m centering my heart

    For that next symphonic minute

And the solo that’s my part

How they whirl in close embraces

    Yet they seldom ever touch

While it’s written on their faces

The desire they feel so much.

They have left their drinks on tables

    To get drunken on desire

    And except for those unable

They soon burn with passion’s fire.

I am walking past the dancers

    They exude a strange perfume

It’s the smell of naked strangers

As they whirl around the room.

But I soft shoe past their tango

As I measure out my steps

    No syncopated addict needs

    Some new burden of regrets.

    Sometimes a wistful gazing look

    Connects with haunting glance

If we’d all just follow by the book

    Would there ever be romance?

Would there ever be a sudden wamth

    Would two people ever mate?

If in hallows of such quietude

    We would actually relate.

    Past vapid false seduction

    Past manipulated minds

The trickling, tickling game of love

Ties its knot that softly binds.

    Instead of sweating bodies

Back to front in knowing arc

There’s the foreplay of true innocence

    In communing heart to heart.

Face to face we’d read each other

The soul’s glow behind the eyes

    End of friendship: lifelong lover

    We might forever realize.

I am walking past the dancers

    Just a shadow moving free

Shuffling quick to my heart’s drummer

Hoping you will leave with me.

Flee temptation, and youthful lusts....the bible says something like that. The bible bible also says "turn from it, and walk away." The character in this poem did all of this....and this is an awesome write. TEN from me....wish it were more.

Once again, thank you for a perceptive and affirming response. HT

I loved it. The way you expressed yourself with honesty, you made your words dance. You bring the reader right there next to you and pour out your heart’s inners. I give it a +10.

Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful comments. HT

Dancing for me is much like my poetry and art, wild, erotic and all over the place, thanx for the stimulus package, Wah'do Harv

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
