    What Do Ya Do?

    What do ya do
    when you're flat broke?
    Only part time jobs, and
    the bills still choke.

    there's just no work,
    there's no where to go...
    So what do ya do?
    Heck, I don't know!

    Weeks go by, we're
    getting hungry...
    winter's coming
    and still no money.

    The phone's cut off...
    bad for business.
    No outside contacts
    no mental assistance!

    The dishes' piling,
    ain't no soap!
    The laundry stinks...
    it ain't no joke!

    Food is dwindling,
    I'm getting skinny.
    My nerves as thin
    as half a panny!

    I work my butt off
    for what I get, yet
    I'm still drowning...
    better yet --

    I'm falling through
    this deep dark hole...
    never again
    my head to show!

    Getting money
    seems such a crime!
    Hey... Brother....
    Do ya got a dime?

Send me your Paypal email address and I'll send you $5.00 (seriously) if you really need it, that is. I appreciate the humor in this piece even though there is underlying pain there you're still able to find the lighter side of what you were going through and share it with us. Thanks! I appreciate your willingness to help out kaddeesh. That's a rarity in these modern days. Please understand however, this poem was written in '83. At that time, I "was" truly flat broke. :) You're a very nice person and I enjoy your honesty about my poems...I'm still reading your comments.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
