When I Say I Love You

When I Say I Love You

When I say I love you, you’ll know that it is true.

Not just words falling from my tongue;

Pure and genuine expressions of love.

I’ll do more than tell you;

Make every effort to show you.

Love you and care for you in your times of distress;

Give you comfort with each little caress.

My love for you will be patient and kind;

Even when I get tired of hearing you whine.

My love will not be jealous or rude;

Even when everything else seems more important to you.

Yes, that game that you’re watching;

That car that you’re fixing;

They’ll come and go; and I’ll be here waiting.

I’ll never give up;

I’ll always be hopeful;

My love for you grows stronger and stronger.

When I say I love you, you’ll know that it is true.

For when you’re on my last nerve;

I’ll smile and say I love you;and never leave the room.

Yes, I’ll give myself completely;

Make love my highest goal.

I’ll not demand my own way;

But quietly make it known.

When I say I love you; yes you’ll know it’s true.

Never boast about you being wrong;

Just silently sing my own victory song.

When I say I love you, you’ll know that it is true.

In all the ways I’ve shown you just how much I do.

Very nice poem. I will have to recommend your poetry to my friends. I love love poems. I like the fact that you write on a good variety of topics in your poetry. Once again, nice form, function, and flow to your poetry.

Thank you for such encouraging words. I write according to my mood. I'm at times like a box of chocolates, ya never know what you're gonna get. Thanks again

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
