    Poem Commentary

A friendship that was happy, but not everlasting.  Unfortunately, some things must end.

    When It's Over

You warmly held my hand and our friendship would begin
You thought I was your friend until the end

The thought of you made my happiness ascend
You thought I was your friend until the end

We could openly express our feelings now and then
You thought I was your friend until the end

We shared a bond that no man could bend
You thought I was your friend until the end

But I hurt you in a way time can never mend
You thought I was your friend until the end

You wouldn't try to settle the score or cynically tend
You thought I was your friend until the end

Your tongue could mercilessly offend, though no harm did you intend
You thought I was your friend until the end

If someone insulted me, you would usually defend
You thought I was your friend until the end

Strength never let you blindly follow the latest trend
You thought I was your friend until the end

Amidst a crowd of strangers, your laughter would seamlessly blend
You thought I was your friend until the end

When I was too poor to spend, you would gladly fend
You thought I was your best friend until the end

Always there with a helping hand to lend
You thought I was your best friend until the end

Without you my life has slowly started to descend
You thought I was your friend until the end

This is sad and heartfelt. I enjoyed the rhymes. Great writing!

Hard to keep a friend to the end. At least one described in your wonderful heartfelt poem. 10 from me.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
