Poem Commentary

I wrote this when I thought my husband and I were on the verge of divorce. We made it through. Been married 20 years now.

When

When I needed a friend, you were always there.
I cried on your shoulder, and I knew you cared.
As time went by, our friendship grew strong,
I knew in my heart, it could not go wrong.

When I needed a lover, you were always there.
Holding me in your arms, should I love you, should I dare?
Then as time went by, our love grew strong,
I knew in my heart, it could never be wrong.

When I needed a husband, you were always there.
We became as one, we were a pair.
And as time went by, our marriage grew strong,
I knew in my heart, in your arms, is where I belong.

When our love died, you were no longer there.
I lost all that I had, it was to much to bare.
Now, as time goes by, my heart cries and it bleeds.
I still feel you in my soul, you're still all that I need.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
