    Why can't you see me

    My hands are tied
    I cannot scream
but it is not ropes and knots
    that bind me
    It is my pride
    my insanity
    It keeps me under locks
    and on the edge
    all the time
    I try to move
    pain sears me
as it tries to keep me
from who I need to be
    help me
I am an animal in a cage
    but I am tame
    nobody sees me
    under this cloudy eyed mask
    help me
    I need a friend
    someone who understands
    a kiss on the cheek
    a hand to hold
    that this insanity
    won't lend to me
    why can it not see
    I am simply a child
but I am afraid to say
    afraid of rejection
    afraid of pain
    don't leave me alone
    but
    the truth is
    they don't see me
so how am I not alone
and all I can say without the pain is
    Why don't you see me

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
