Wise Fool

Wise Fool

The tears I have shed, in remembrance of us,

Have surely now, washed the brilliant canvas clean,

The beautiful picture of ‘we’ is gone.

I reached out for you when I despaired,

Of ever feeling loved and worthy,

You did not notice the tears, or the desperation,

You laughed and turned away.

I sobbed quietly to myself, in the

Whitewashed room we shared.

Wanting you to hear and to see,

To care enough to hold me close,

And tell me you loved me.

I hoped and prayed,

That one day you would remember,

The times I comforted and cared for you.

You never asked, I just knew.

Please do not turn out the lights,

Or close the door,

Or smile, that same, carefree smile

Anymore.

I did once, whole heartedly believe,

You gave a damn dear heart,

That you knew, without question,

The secrets of my soul.

I am older, wiser and surer now,

I’ll not be your fool’s fool any longer,

Take heart, dear heart, you are free.

Please love, do me the self same courtesy.

Loved your poem, though I believe feelings stay with you always. they can't be washed away, no matter to brush or monsoon. You can change the color of the memories differently or throw a little dirt on them, but they can never be completely buried, because they are alive.

I quite agree, though I think there are memories we wish we could forget. I think that the tears were as much a purification of the soul in the wake of pain, as much as they were an attempt to escape. Thank you so much for reading and comment, much obliged! Narrator.

Narrator, A wiser sage would puzzle longer I fear. I love that last line, "Please love, do me the same self courtesy." This dear poet is the arrow in the heart. tyvm ginga

My deepest thanks Ginga. We are all only the sum of our experiences and so must each bring something new to each reading of a poem, but most oft I find, the truest wisdom is that which we all secretly already posess. Thank you again :) Narrator.

A fools heart to be blinded by a true love is the other persons loss... For they haven't found love within themselves or who they are so they can not recieve such a pure love....... great write Narrator ty for sharing such wisdom for the wise of heart is lead by the spirit of love.... which is Gods' Holy Spirit a life giving love...... red

Thank you red. Yes truly, to live without knowledge of love is not to live at all, what is life without love? Humanity is a union of kindred spirits, every human being craves the understanding of another :). Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Narrator.

I found this to be evocative. Love is a double edged sword. You develop this strong bond with someone. Get used to falling back on them when times are hard. But when the relationship fails you're left with nothing but yourself. It's almost like being reborn. You've portrayed this well in this piece. On a side note; I'd rather be a wise fool than one full of regret.

Thank you for that comment. Me too, better to have lived and learnt and remember the joy and the sorrow, than to spend your life looking back and wondering what could have been. Love is a complicated thing, to which there is no book of rules, we can only do our best and try to learn to fly. Thank you again for taking the time to read and comment! Narrator.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
