    Wise Men Know

in every epic known to man
    some woman raises deadly hand
    wielding feminine wiles to achieve
    the wicked legacy of Eve

and since the very dawn of time
with tooth and fist and skill sublime
men have fought for just this prize
    adoring reflection in female eyes

    battlefields littered with embittered hearts
    histories lessons do impart
    she who's purposed to deceive
will never real love thus receive

as Helen wrought the fall of Troy
her lust a weapon full deployed
    did not to Menelaus keep
thus Trojan women learned to weep

    as Morgan plotted Arthur's doom
with spoiled fruit of twisted womb
and thus did Mordred so array
his father's pride to strip away

    remember Circe. and Argonauts
turned to pigs, all for naught
    her love of Glaucus unrequited
    cursed Scylla soundly and delighted

I tell you that there is no dearth
    of wicked women walking Earth
    seeking men they may defeat
their tender hearts a tasty treat

if you've left a grain of sense
    avoid this dire consequence
do not your heart on her bestow
who's sacred vows are just for show

but wait for her with heart unstained
    before your passion you unchain
beware the price of what's been sought
    before your soul's forever caught

This is true and written with such ease and passion. I love the fifth and sixth stanza you bring the beauty of life.

The last two stanza's more or less throw down the gauntlet in this excellent poem.

I can see where you are coming from. All the women I have ever known have been wicked and deceitful. But when you say but wait for her who's heart's unstained, it gives me hope that there is a good woman out there somewhere, yet being burned by so many before, i'm not sure i would be able to recognize her. nice job though.

it was written as a warning for a friend, and in the future, for my sons.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
