Poem Commentary

Food for thought and just my opinion.

Writers of Poems (WOPs)

What a diverse group we are a collection of WOPs

Many thousands in numbers all posting on OPs

We fling words and phrases in all sorts of styles

Some tragic, some yearning, some chalked full of smiles

Personalities aplenty you can find them all here

Some friendly, some chatty, some nasty, some sincere

We have WOPs that write tomes and WOPs that write little

WOPs that write of beauty and WOPs that write of peanut brittle

WOPs are not timid when commenting, they say what they think

They may tell you they love it or they may tell you in stinks

Some pontificate and boast as if they alone have the answer

Some demand poetic purity and act as sole executioner.

But most WOPs are kind and have a clear understanding

Poetry is many things to their fellow WOPs, poems not withstanding

So they read and comment and offer advise here and there

They bite their tongue when they have to and continue to share.

For what is most important is not that purity be upheld

But that free expression be granted and accepted in the meld

For all those purists that find their participation in doubt

We WOPs hope you will stay on and find a way to chill out.

great write loved it. I myself don't mind constructive criticism on my work. But i've had a few completely not get my point. Thank God the ones that do outweigh those who don't. I know the punctuation in my work is atrocious. But it's the words a true poet can see and look past the gramatical errors. well done. -Tonya

Serious but written in a light-hearted way; at least to myself it seems. And, I respect your opinion but your shortened version of the title just has to go; and though dad is long gone I will never let on that I belong to a group that uses the 'w' word. So with a a hip and a hop I am out of here; just to make sure dad isn't around. lol

read your status and hope your intention to find inspiration is met...of course you already know it has to come from you. Even Jimmy Durante knew that that is why he sat right down and wrote himself a letter...rofl

Mr. Hampton, your poem is more than whats meets the mind. Can I please post this , if not please erase this.. ===================================== This is what sadens my poetic heart, not one of you have signed up at historychannel.com This is 2009 and you have the tools to Make History Every Day, and you all,,, are to scared to raise your poetic voice. I believe in poetry, always have always Will/Shall with or with out you. John E WordSlinger http://boards.history.com/topic/New-Series/New-Episodes/800027505

Poetry is what is lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
