poetry.com was a scam. the domain is owned by lulu now, which is a company for self publishing books.

Is lulu a scam as well, anybody know? I have a selection of poems posted there as well, don't spend much time there, though. Have never ever, placed anything there that wasn't copywrited first by me, though, cuz I don't like the fact that the second you hit post on that site...it automatically places the copy symbol...just my thoughts on it.

lulu is a self publishing service. they're like creatspace. the thing I don't like about them is their contest. they say you own the rights, but they have the right to take your poems and publish them all they want.

That is very good to know, thank you papa, I don't believe I will be adding any more works to that site...even though I've never won any of their contests

I too was a part of the poetry.com site. I wrote over 400 poems on that site. Some completely disapeared. All but about 100 were lost when they went out of business.LULU's poetry is now the owner of poetry.com. I sent emails and tried to get help, following the rules, then finally I was able to find my last 100 by searching title, name and type, after months and months of trying I was able to reach the last100. The rest seemed to be forever gone.Much of my work was use in poetry books. I won trophies, awards ,madalons, dinners,,hotel rooms. a watch and many certificates and an offer to help pay for a single book of just my poetry, then one day they went out of business. I am still missing 300 or more poems I worked on for, four years. You need to join LULUS poetry then go fishing the site for them..How ever there are internet sites that are still looking. Good luck with your search.rolleyes Look me up on this site email me and I Will try to help you get through some of what I know.Lulus poetry now owns it. I have had no luck talking to a real person that could help. Good Luck grin

lulu sucks for administrative feedback. If you have a question there, keep it to yourself, because it is highly unlikely you will ever receive a response. I don't post much there myself, but I've had a few up there just to keep my name out there on different sites.

There really isn't much you can do, except to always keep copies of your work. I was lucky to find what I did. There is a law firm trying to go after them but I Really don't think they will get anywhere. I am just lucky to have found that many. I am not a part of it. I do not know any of the curcumstances. I just wanted my poems back. I have not got involved. I probably don't know anymore then you do. I still have a few myself on that site. The thing is they can use your poems but poetry.com should at least make axcess availabity.questionsmirk

Congrats on receiving a response, seems you got further than anyone else I've met who placed pieces there. Those I've met, shared my story. Questioned errors, no response. Questioned several times, gave up. I worked through the error responses on my own that I could access and post work there, but never once recieved a response from administration there. Great thing about the OP, is they are very attentive to controlling problems on the site... makes for a better site.

Unless I was misinformed, they can't use your work wherever, whenever they choose unless you have won a contest there. If you win one of their contests then per their terms they have rights to that piece to use as often as they like.

I don't worry about anybody stealing my work there, anything I've placed there is registered with copyright.gov. Not because I think someone would steal my poems, just think it's not a bad idea to copyright work if it's being posted on the web... to do in bulk hardly costs anything.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
