PRISON

What a darksome place
From one end to another end
Prison where freedom is cease
With all it brutality

Who is truly free?
Look at the bare floor
Take a good look at the rodents
And all types of blood sucking beast

Murderers at night
Lurking at the shadow
Slaughtering helpless victim
Casting them in donjons

Everyday I lurk through
Hazard night of quash men
Who moved with sinister wind
In pursuit of helpless prey

Anytime I see lost souls
Fear gnawed through my heart
Causing hoodoo and pain
To my bounteous soul

Oh! If found
My lost freedom
Peace will I live
With my soul at rest

Soul Passion

Re: PRISON

Good work. And I'm surprised meeting a Nigerian poet here.
I'm actually a member of some poetry communities - sonnets.org, 14by14, poetry.com, blogit.com, and I'm a form poet: I don't seem to do too much of the free verse.

I hope critics are allowed here. Keep your good work.

Re: PRISON

The scariest prison of all is the one within our own heart and mind....human beings can survive, even thrive in almost any setting, if they are able to free their mind..

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
