If I had known

If I had known

I'm sorry that I didn't know
what real marriage consisted of
I guess I thought that all it required
was the promise of forever Love

I didn't realized that it required work
and constant effort on my part
I thought that it would be enough
to tell you that you held my heart.

I didn't think that I would ever loose you
because I didn't do any maintenance
No matter how much you tried to express
your needs, somehow it never made sense.

But now that you have left me and moved on
I finally think that I have a clue
That if I had just done the little things
then maybe I would still have you! confused confused confused confused

A Marriage requires Work

LOTS and LOTS of work. And it takes two. One must impeach thoughts of self and cling only to thoughts of their union with their spouse. There is never such a thing as 'it's your fault!'. It is OUR fault. It is OUR marriage. It is OUR shared responsibility in good times and in bad. It is OUR love that fails if we fail. It is OUR uncertainties, OUR selfishness, OUR heartaches, or OUR love that will determine the outcome of OUR marriage. Don't blame yourself for a failed marriage or relationship. You were not alone in that failing, so don't take all of the responsibility. Pass it on.
