    A MAN ON THE HILL

I SAW A MAN ON THE HILL ALL ALONE
DIDN'T HAVE A TV, FAX, OR A PHONE
JUST SOME BEER AND THE MOUNTAINS BY HIS SIDE
SOME PLACE TO GO, TO RUN AND HIDE
HE WAS MAD AT THE WORLD, NOBODY CARED
OF COURSE, ALL I DID WAS STARE
THE MORE HE DRANK, THE MORE HE FORGOT
HE BAKED IN THE SUN, NO MEMORIES HE BROUGHT
I FELT HIS PAIN, HIS MESS HE WAS IN [OH DEAR!]
HE TOOK OFF HIS SHIRT, POPPED OPEN A BEER
LIFE COULDN'T GET WORSE THAN THIS, HE'S THINKIN
AS HE LOOKS OVER, AND JUST KEEPS DRINKIN
UP FROM NOWHERE CAME GUYS ON 4 WHELEERS
    SMOKIN POT..THOSE MEAN WHEELIN DEALERS
SAW SOME FOLKS WHO STARTED A FIRE, ITS TRUE
LOOKIN AT US, THINKIN, WHAT'S IT TO YOU?
IF ONLY HE KNEW WHAT I WAS THINKING
HE'D STOP FOR A WHILE, SLOW DOWN ON HIS DRINKIN
I SAW A MAN ON THE HILL ALL ALONE
    DIDN'T HAVE A T.V. FAX, OR A PHONE
NOW WER'E PACKED UP READY TO GO HOME
I'M LEAVING THE MAN ON THE HILL ALL ALONE

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
