A Silent Father

A Silent Father

Years had gone too fast

But memories lingered and flashed

Your days of struggle in the past

Never waned you to blast

Your childhood days of being alone,

Never gave you weaknesses all along

Instead, it made you remain strong

To survive the game of life for so long

Time had come you became a family man...

The wrath of challenges was still torturing your trembling hand...

Never released you till your last days in your homeland…

Yet you never vowed to knell nor raise your hands

Even if the air was so thin in your lungs.

In your days of struggle...

You wondered how your children live...

You didn't even know how they could able to evade

From being captured by the monster of misery in the cave…

Failures in your life, you found outlet to shout out with

To your emotionally confused and distressed people you sheltered...

You became so unmindful of love to yourself

And to the people around you fed…

You became so furious, and hated how you live…

Yet, they remained impassive of their pains you inflicted...

But, showed you how to spell the love instead....

The time came when your hands could no longer able to grip,

The mallet you used to pulverize the hard rock with gold to pick

Hence, you chose to sit down and wait …

When the sun rose and sat,

When to hear the last click of the clock.

The time came when the moment of silence cast upon you...

Sighs, groans, agony and pains…

Were succumbed to vanish to an eternal end…

Your soul was so loud shouting you're there...

But no one could hear and saw where you were...

You might still be worrying, for not being talked or seen

With someone who refrained from contaminating your days of silence

But, he has words to tell that you must be at ease…

That he has no hard feelings, nor blames to raise

Of the way how you became - his silent father

Whom he learnt at his best-

To be a master of struggle and escape

In this life full of challenges and unrest

You deserve gratitude and heartfelt honor

For allowing your children to watch and learn to crawl-

Run, fly, swim and fight...

In this real battle of teasing life...

Go, take a ride

That eternal bright of light

Soar to the sky and find your home up high

There, no more heartaches, tears, worries and sighs

You definitely be fine… in wonderful cloud nine…

To this end, let me say thank you...

And bid ...a solemn goodbye...

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
