    ABANDONED LOVE

    My love, My princess,
    Why have you abandoned me?
    Have I not given you
    All the riches of man?
    Yet here we are -–
    You, me and him.
Do you not see my pain
As he pierces me with his staff?
Do you not see my blood drain
    As our love is draining?
Come to me, my love –-
    Hold me until I take
    My last breath.
    My world grows dark
From the pain of his piercing.
    Can you not love me
    For but a moment longer?
The lights have gone out now –
Good bye my sweet, flowing beauty!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
