    Poem Commentary

This one is very personal to me.  Took me a while before I was able to share it with others.

    At River's Edge

    At river's edge
    winds blowing through my hair
    emotions I embraced
    my heart skipped a pace

    At river's edge
it all came back to me
    I remembered your face
    my heart stood in place

    At river's edge
    misery will not dwell
    you've run your last race
    no one set the pace

    At river's edge
    fate not understood
    tears running down my face
as you took your resting place

    At river's edge
thanked God for the time we shared
    I had my final cry
    never to say good-bye

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
