broken

broken

when she's around him
she acts strong and tough
so that he can't see
just how weak she is.

but when she's alone
she breaks down
and the tears come pouring.

she doesn't want him to see
the hurt and the pain
that goes on inside,
so she hides it
whenever she is near him.

she feels like a little kid
whose lost her very best friend.
she feels lost and confused.

she is broken
and doesn't know
quite what to do.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
