B.R.O.T.H.A
(Brother’s Respectably Overcoming the Hypothesized Assumption)

There’s sumthin about a brotha
Is it his smile or is it his grin
Maybe even the cute dip in his chin
There is definitely something unique about this man
He’s under cover, a secret lover, a natural prowess, cultural stylist
Yeah, you know the one…………he got his shit together
Despite the fact his father left him
And his mother taxed him with the guilt of why she couldn’t find another lover to replace him,
All the while his uncle rapes him, leaving a boy that would rise above THEM
Above THIS
And enlist into a world, into a society that had assumed his capabilities by the hue and tone of his skin
He’s a survivor and reviver of a heritage long forgotten
A legacy that has become sodden
By the very people that became inheritors of the sufferings of our forefathers.
I write this, because I’m bothered
Bothered by the reason we don’t take note of this brotha
A testimony of hope
Whose life sufferings caused his vision to be tunneled through a scope
What most would have seen as despair,
He being impaired, with less than favorable conditions
Proved to the world that he is a limited edition
Subsisting and Coexisting amongst men that look just like him to the natural eye
But to those who search deeper, there lies and you will find
That there truly is Sumthin About a Brotha
