    Chivalry

I lost my chivalry to misery
If I make it through this night
    I’ll know there’s purpose to
    the night I was made

    I’ve lost my chivalry
    I wallow in misery
    I drink from left-over hearts
    hearts used and broken
    by yesterday’s love

    I lost my chivalry
    misery becomes me
    I dance to yesterday’s hits
    clinging to stale memory
looking for faces lost in the mist of time

    I’m lost in time
    Chivalry is leaving me
I seek to hear you moan my name again
I seek to find purpose in every kiss
I seek to be a horse man again
a horse man riding up your flowing gown

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
